What
is more L4 Tools?
This is a program
that I wrote to help me keep a backup list of information on how
I have Logos 4 Bible Software setup on my computer. I am
sharing it with you for free. In the past after a crash or
an indexing problem I have lost data a couple of times. This was
very frustrating since I had spent hours setting up Logos 4 the
way that I wanted it, only to find that the Cloud did not restore
the information. mL4Tools
will not restore your information to Logos 4, but you will have
a list of some of the major areas so that you will know how you
had Logos 4 setup.

Features
in this program

Downloading
& Installation
For the time
being you will need to use Internet Explorer
(other browser will not work) to download & install mL4Tools
on your windows computer. Click here
to open the installation page and click on the Install button.
After installation you will need Logos 4 running prior to starting
mL4Tools (otherwise mL4Tools
may appear to hangup while it times out waiting for Logos 4 to respond).
It is strongly suggested that you create a shortcut in Logos 4 for
mL4Tools by dragging its icon from
Program Files->mL4Tools after clicking the Start button in windows.
If you have
previously had mL4Tools installed and
your receive an error message, you may need to run the Control
Panel in windows and uninstall mL4Tools,
then try to run the installer
page again.
Later when I
get time I will create another installation page with instructions
which will contain a zipped installation file.

Quick
viewing & opening your Document files in Logos 4
(those found under File in the L4 menu)
After you have
been running Logos 4 for some time you may have accumulated a large
number of documents. In Logos 4 you can type in the Find
box which shows on the right side after clicking on File
in L4's menu bar to help you.
But as an alternative
you can use the L4 Docs tab in mL4Tools
(see Fig. 1a) to assist you in finding
your documents quicker. On the right side of the L4 Docs tab
in mL4Tools you will see a list of
document types which were found in your full list of documents.
You can click on any of these types and mL4Tools
will filter your documents list to show only those for the type
that you selected. Then you can also click on the Title heading
in mL4Tools to have your list sorted
by alphabet. If you double-click on a document in the list area
(where you see a list of your documents) then mL4Tools
will signal Logos 4 to open that document.

Making
a backup list of how you Tagged resources in Logos 4
You
will find it useful to have a backup list of how you tagged your resources
in Logos 4 in the Library window.
Fig. 2a below shows Logos 4's
Library panel with a red rectangle drawn around the Tagged column.
Notice in Fig. 2b that mL4Tools
has all the information in it needed for you to reconstruct or check
your Logos 4 tagged resources. You will want to save this information
in mL4Tools, so you would use
the Export to CSV button to export all your tagged resourceinformation
to a file readable by a spreadsheet. Then you could use Excel to import
the information and arrange it and make notes (see Fig.
2c) and then save your Excel document to your computer
in a known location so you could find it in the event that you need
to see how you had your Logos 4 resources tagged.

Making
a backup list of your Logos 4 Collections
You will find it useful
to have a backup list of your Logos 4 Collections.
Fig. 3a below shows a Collection
as seen in Logos 4's collection panel. Notice in Fig.
3b that mL4Tools has
all the information in it needed for you to reconstruct or check your
Logos 4 collections. You will want to save this information in mL4Tools,
so you would use the Export to CSV button to export all your
collections information to a file readable by a spreadsheet. Then
you could use Excel to import the information and arrange it and make
notes (see Fig. 3c) and then save
your Excel document to your computer in a known location so you could
find it in the event that you need to see how you had your Logos 4
collections setup. |

Making
a backup list of your Logos 4 Priorities
You
will find it useful to have a backup list of how you have prioritized
your Logos 4 resources in the Library window.
Fig. 4a below shows a section
of the Prioritization panel in the Library window of Logos 4. Notice
in Fig. 4b that mL4Tools
has all the information in it needed for you to reconstruct or check
your Logos 4 prioritization. You will want to save this information
in mL4Tools, so you would use
the Export to CSV button to export your priorities information
to a file readable by a spreadsheet. Then you could use Excel to import
the information and arrange it and make notes (see Fig.
4c) and then save your Excel document to your computer
in a known location so you could find it in the event that you need
to see how you had your Logos 4 priorities set. |

Adding
comments to books in your Logos 4 Library
Something that
I have wanted Logos to offer was a way to add my comments to any
book in my Library. While building this program I found a way to
add it here.
|
|
|

|
|
|
1. In
the Library tab, locate a book that you want to add a comment to
and click on it to select it.
2. Now
right-click on the selected book and mL4Tools will show you a pop-up
menu. Hover over Book Comments and another menu becomes visible.
Now click on Edit/Add Comments in that menu.
|
|
|
|

|
|
|
3. mL4Tools
will open the Comment Editor window.
4. Click
in the text editing area and start typing in your comments. This
editor box will only accept text (no formating). Please notice under
the edit area to the right is text limit info. And under that you
will see a text character counter which will increase as you type.
So for now you are limited to 2048 characters in your comment.
5. When
you have finished entering your comments, click on the Save
button to save it. mL4Tools
saves your comments on your hard drive in ProgramData/mL4Tools.
So the next time you open it, your comments for your books is still
available.
